Marked By Blood

Lucian Roman knows he must stay away from Bronwyn Kettler for sanity's sake. Since feeding her his blood, he can think of nothing else but possessing her—fighting an uncontrollable desire to kill her, if he has to, and the vampire she has sworn to wed.

Bronwyn, a brilliant vampire genealogist, can never escape her connection to Lucian. He sustained her when she was starving. He still rules her dreams. And when the nights get dark enough, she still craves him. Though is essence courses through her body, she has found a true mate in someone else.

But when a dangerous enemy threatens Bronwyn, only Lucian—bound to her forever by blood—can save her life. Even if it means sacrificing his own.

Laura: Kayla, thank you so much for having me over to Reading on the Wild Side! I’m so thrilled to be here :)

Kayla: What is something that not a lot of people know about you, that you wish they knew?

Laura: What is something that not a lot of people know about you, that you wish they knew?
Wait? Things I wish they DID know? Hmmm.. There are many things I wish they DIDN’T know :) Like, that I bite my nails or tend to eat dinner as breakfast or collect water bottle on my desk until they look like a map of the United States.. What was the question again? :)

Kayla: What project are you currently working on?

Laura: I am working on two projects at the moment: ETERNAL DEMON, the 5th book in the Mark of the Vampire series, and BRANDED, a cowboy, marriage of convenience, sexy and emotional romp :)

Kayla: When you aren't writing what do you like to do?

Laura: I am a huge gardener. And this is the time of year I love the most. Tomatoes, cucs, strawberries. I love growing my own food, and teaching that to my little kids.. Ordering from the Burpee catalog, while I sip wine outside on my porch ROCKS! I also love movies, going to plays, listening to Wicked and RENT on repeat while I write—Oops, just came back to writing :) Can’t help it…

Kayla: Name 4 people you would love to meet, if you got the chance?

Laura: Jude Deveraux (why I started writing romance to begin with) Hillary Clinton, Jane Goodall and the cast of Gilmore Girls:)

Kayla: Do you have a new author who has grasped your interest?

Laura: She’s not all that new, but she’s new to me :) Jasmine Haynes. I just recently read her THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE, and I just loved it.

Kayla: What was your favorite chapter/scene to write in Eternal Captive?
Laura: Well, I’m a huge lover of dark, emotional scenes with dialogue. I love the scene where Bronwyn confronts Luca with her pregnancy. I loved letting them both confront their fears, shed their skin and get real and honest with each other. Loved the ending too :) Made me cry. Luca truly grew through love..

Kayla: What is most important to you in life?

Laura: Wow, amazing question. It is undoubtedly my family; my husband and children. They are my everything, my insides, my heart :)

Kayla: What has been your favorite book to write?

Laura: Jeez! Damn, that’s a question. I always think the one I’m writing is my favorite. Jeez.. it’s like picking a favorite child. I can say, the Mark of the Vampire series has been my favorite series of books to write. My guts are in there with those boys, you know? I love them all in different ways. I’m writing Eternal Demon now, and well.. okay, that one is my favorite. Wait..Eternal Beast… no, Captive.. Kiss….dammit! :)

Kayla: I loved this Interview, reading it made me laugh, smile, and I loved the answers! Thanks for the Interview Laura and  Carla. I hope that everyone enjoys reading the interview as much as I did!

Unlike many of my peers in the writing world, I wasn’t a writer or a reader until I left high school. During my youth I was into theater, song and dance, commercials and boys. I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago - my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me. In 1997 I enrolled in UCLA extension writing classes, met my mentor and critique partners and since have never stopped writing. I was committed then and I still am now; the need to tell my own romantic stories a full on obsession. My first manuscript was rejected, and though the second one was as well the editor who’d rejected it wanted to see something else from me. I had something (note to authors; always keep working, even after you’ve sent in a proposal) and sent it right away. The day I got the call telling me Desire wanted to buy Cinderella and the Playboy was the best day of my life. That is until I married my husband, and had my two beautiful children. But I must say, writing is much like motherhood – tough, grueling, surprising, delicious and for me, a dream come true. I was born and raised in Minnesota. It’s where my love of all things green, wet and grown in the ground comes from. As you read above, before writing I was an actor, singer and dancer, specifically a BALLROOM dancer - an instructor and competitor as well. That work took me to many places like New York, Ohio and Wisconsin. I live in Los Angeles now, but I’m always thinking about greener pastures – literally.
