Review

Yet another amazing book that I've read this year!!!

I just love the cute nerdy-guy-likes-the-hot-girl type of stories! This one was just too beautiful and romantic! It was a short read, but I think the author did quite the great job of developing the characters enough! It was a little bit weird how Michelle saw Noah Frellish's picture on a billboard yet did not know the guy she was dating. I mean, is that really possible that a person could look so different on a billboard and in person? This is the only unrealistic thing that I found in the book, but it's still absolutely amazing.

I love the romantic moments and I also love the fact that Noah wasn't the kind of nerd that has never had any action ;) He was the hot kind of nerd. It's not his fault he liked to wear his nerdy glasses. He's a guy; therefore, he doesn't care much for how he looks. I also enjoyed the fact that his friends looked out for Michelle. They took care of her and trusted that she could do the job presented to her.

Michelle was such a hard worker. She definitely deserved everything she achieved. She was such an inspirational character. This is not something we see often in heroines. They're mostly strong and badass, but not necessarily inspirational.

Big congratulations to the author for such an amazing book. Yet another one added to my favorite authors list in my head! :)

Ashton Grey’s restaurant, Sweet Home, is in trouble. Months of empty tables have left her and her partners near bankruptcy, and her father’s prediction of her failure as a chef seems imminent. But a chance encounter could provide Ashton with the publicity she needs to save her restaurant—if the fiery chef is willing to compete on a reality cooking show. But in order to win, she needs to stay focused. No problem…until she meets the head judge.

Celebrity chef Ty Cates is ready to get away from the camera and back to the kitchen where he belongs. Performing as head judge on a reality show is just one more commitment he’d like to get out of, especially after he meets Ashton. Head judges dating contestants is about as taboo as putting ketchup on filet mignon, but from the moment they meet, there’s a simmering heat between them that neither can ignore.

As the competition heats up, they rely on sneaking around, stealing amazing night after amazing night together when the cameras aren’t rolling. When both realize what’s starting to feel like love could easily be a recipe for disaster, Ashton and Ty need to make a choice—get out of the kitchen or turn up the heat.

Review

One of the best books I've read this year!!!

This book made me feel like I was really watching a cooking show while getting the inside scoop of the contestant and judge at the same time. The characters were well-written and they each have their specific flaws that made them seem so real.

Ashton was the kind of person who took insults from her father all her life. She knew she was a good cook, but when it came to her father, she cowered. When people tried to criticize her food, she explodes and that's exactly how she found herself in the cooking show The Next Celebrity Chef.

Ty Cates was a southern guy that had so much charm. I fell in love with him just by reading about him. If he was a real guy, I'd probably melt on his feet if I ever meet him. He knew his appeal to women, but he also missed cooking. He needed someone who can challenge him and remind him of the joy of cooking. He found this with Ashton.

The controversy and ridiculous Hollywood protocol was sometimes annoying, but hey, that's reality. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the humor between Ty and his best friend Scott. When an author can make me laugh when writing about two male best friends, they usually make it to my favorite author list.

Ty: "What if...what if the person you're interested in is someone you can't have?"

Scott: "Are you trying to tell me...?" He swallowed a few times. "Are you...gay?"

Overall, Robbie Terman is now one of my favorite authors and this book is an absolute MUST-READ MASTERPIECE. It'd be a mistake to miss this amazing book.

Check out my favorite scenes :)

Ty: "...Frankly, I expected you to be able to hold your liquor better. Just do me a favor, next time you want to throw a knife at someone, make sure you're sober. I'd hate to see you end up in jail."
Ashton: "You watched the tape."
Ty: "Yup. I have a copy in my safety-deposit box with instructions that it be sent to the police in the event of my death by mysterious knife wound."

Ty: "I'm surprised Ellen didn't send Ashton to the desk by herself so you both could grill me."
Scott: "We prefer to work separately and compare notes." He leaned closer. "Is this her? The one you were mooning about at dinner?
Ty: "I wasn't mooning. But yes. This is her. And it's on the downlow. Understand?"
Scott: "Is she married?"
Ty: "Of course she's not married. She's... She's a contestant on the show."
Scott: "Which show?"
Ty: "Mine, dumbass! The Next Celebrity Chef."
Scott: "Ohhh. Who cares? The show ends in, what, four weeks?"
Ty: "I assure you, the network cares. And so do their attorneys. We shouldn't even be out in public, but I wanted her to meet you and Ellen."
Scott: "I love you too, man." He bit back a fake sob.

Review

Good, but not quite a book I'd read overnight.

The book was slow for the most part. I didn't get into it until the last quarter. I had quite the trouble finishing it and only because I made a commitment to review it. Overall, the book was well-written and it did have some interesting scenes. However, I felt it didn't quite pick up until it was almost over. I suppose it might be true to how the "quality folk" lived back in the day, but I was hoping for more of an adventure, which is the reason why I read books.

I did enjoy that there were scenes dedicated to the servants. I appreciated that they were spotlighted in the book. It showed just how Georgette has changed the rules about the "quality folk" and the servants' relationship. By writing about Georgette's maid's personal life, I thought the authors were able to make it seem like the employer and the employee were almost equal. I definitely liked that.

Check out one of my favorite scene :)
"Georgette," he said softly, his deep bass resonating through her. The way he said her name gave her the shivers. It was as if he were making love to the syllables. Rolling the bits of her name over his tongue, tasting them, caressing them.
What if he were to do that to the rest of her?
Her chest constricted. She didn't trust herself to speak, but she raised herself slightly, rocking up on her toes.
"Forgive me," he said huskily.
She didn't have time to wonder what he was asking forgiveness for. He closed the distance between their mouths and rational thought fled.
A kiss doesn't require forgiveness. It was exactly what she wanted. Needed.
