ARC Review: Wolf Moon

I'm so behind with Lisa Kessler's Moon Series, but better late than never. I have read the first book (Adam's story) and the sixth book (Logan's story), but when an email came through asking if I wanted to read the newest and seventh book (Luke's story), I couldn't resist. Check out my review below.

As the last Pack member without a mate, Luke Reynolds has become an outsider. When he takes a job as the head horse trainer in Sedona, Arizona, he’s looking forward to starting a new life. But everything changes the night he finds a beautiful woman stranded on the side of the highway.
Raven Wood has been bitten and turned against her will. Luckily, her spirit is stronger than most, and she has every intention of escaping the Sedona Pack. Somehow. The sexy lone wolf who rescues her might be just the answer she’s looking for.
But the Sedona Pack Alpha has a mission, and unless Luke and Raven can stop him, they’ll lose everything.

Action-packed and quite epic!

I have been reading this series out of order, and this has been the third book I've read from the series. I must say that this was my favorite book so far! I loved it so much!

Chapter 1 was such a great example of how to write a proper story. If that doesn't sell this book to you, I don't know what would.

Luke was afraid he'd never find his mate, but when he did, wow, what a dilemma!

There was a part when Luke was beaten to a pulp and he couldn't fight back. That was such a gruesome thing to read, but it was necessary. I thought it only strengthened his resolve to successfully infiltrate the pack of misguided wolves led by a sinister Alpha.

Raven was a headstrong woman who was bitten to become part of an army of werewolves. The instinct to protect was just as present as it was inside Luke's. It was so energizing reading about Raven and Luke trying to protect each other.

One of my favorite things from this book was in chapter one when the author inserted all kinds of ironic things that the readers would have already known, but Raven didn't. It was fun waiting for her to piece things together and figure things out.

Raven: "You're very sexy when you lift saddles like they weigh nothing."
Luke: "And just so you know... I lift saddles multiple times a day."
Raven: "Is that a challenge?"
Luke: "Nah. Just thought you might want to know."

Another thing I really enjoyed was how Luke kept trying to teach other wolves in the pack he'd infiltrated how to properly greet each other. I thought it was so honorable and... right.

I also really enjoyed the part when they all turned under a full moon and someone had to bite Luke's tail in order to prevent him from giving away his cover. It would seem that his wolf wasn't in on the secret ;)

Overall, this book made me glad I started reading paranormal romance again. That's not to say I'd actively seek them out now, but I'm glad I'm reading this series.

"I'd rather have a little place so I can keep accidentally bumping into you."

All his life he felt he hadn’t belonged but it wasn’t until Clarity Langford appeared did he know the truth of it. Once that truth was revealed there was no going back for Connor Angus, only forward. He discovers he is the long thought dead son of pack Elite leader, Charles Langford. And with that knowledge comes a family full of sisters, mystery and longing for things he’s not sure he has any right to obtain and one of those things is Cordelia Sinclair.

Falling back into the kitchen cabinets, he briefly clutched his side. “Damn it, you’re just not going to give up easily, are you?”

“Why should I?” She eyed him cautiously.

“Because I could seriously hurt you.”

“Now why don’t you just give it your best shot then we’ll see just who gets hurt.”

The man slowly shook his head. “All right, now remember, you asked for it.” He threw a punch that landed squarely on the left side of her head.

Cordelia shook it off but it still left her ear ringing. Grabbing his other arm, she charged into his stomach with her head and flipped him over her back. He landed with a resounding thud on the floor next to the table and on top of the broken china. She was only able to stand there a moment, her sides heaving, when she was knocked off balance by his leg making a wide sweep. It almost knocked the air completely out of her but she managed to throw another punch on her way down.

He grabbed her fist and twisted her arm, picking her up and shoving her facedown once again on the table.

“You have no right being on top of me, so get the fuck off.” She gasped for breath, his added weight making it hard to even move a centimeter.

“You know, I think you’re a little bit sexy when you’re pissed like this. I can smell your pheromones. You want me.” He took a long, slow whiff of her, as if to imprint her on his memory.

“I don’t even know you!” She screamed and tried to buck him off her even as her nipples hardened under her. Heat swelled in the V of her thighs and feelings began to overwhelm her. Feelings that she had never felt before in all her life. Not even with her husband. It was like her body already knew this man intimately.

He leaned down into her softness, and she could feel his body coming to life. His hardness pressed into her butt and all she wanted to do was to get herself out of her pajamas. Thank God, she had decided to sleep with them on last night.

“If I didn’t know better, I’d say that you like it this way.” He ground his body into hers a little more. “Take that back, I know you like it. I can smell it on you and your wet body is telling me exactly what you want. Your body is betraying you.”

Enraged, she slammed her head against his nose. “You don’t know me well enough to know how I like it. And you don’t know anything about my body.”

She heard him groan as she cracked his face. Still, he wouldn’t let go.

“It’s not going to be that easy,” he whispered close to her ear. He started to rock his now very hard cock into the gentle curve of her ass as he rained light, feathery kisses on her neck.

God, he almost had her undone. “What are you doing to me?”

“What do you want me to do to you?” he questioned and flipped her over to stare into her face. Reaching down, he placed his hands on either side of her head and pulled her up to meet him. Lips and tongues met forcefully, pulling and tasting and testing. Gently, he nipped at her bottom lip.

He felt so good up against her. Greedily, she put her hands under his T-shirt and felt the muscles. There was no way that she could have beat him no matter how hard she tried. Letting her hands roam up his chest, she plucked his nipples until they were hard, delighting in the sound he made.

“God, woman, you make me crazy.” Reaching for the collar of her shirt, he ripped it down the center, revealing her taut breasts.

“That’s not fair,” she whispered. “Take this off.” Cordelia tugged at his T-shirt until she pulled it over his head. He looked at her for a long moment, before leaning down to take her nipple in his mouth. She could see the bruises spreading across his cheeks and knew she must have some too. The original question of who he was floated into her mind, but at this very moment she didn’t give a damn.

What if a dragon lived under the city of Paris?

A sweet paranormal romance novella by award-winning author, Beth Barany.

Sarah Redman, a bank project manager up to her neck with work, wants some adventure in her life. A career opportunity in Paris seems like a dream come true, but once she gets there nothing goes as planned. The job interview she thought she wanted falls through and her dreams about a crying dragon trouble her. To top it off, she gets lost in the tunnels of Paris with a man who attracts her more than she wants to admit.

Trainer extraordinaire, Josh Kleine, needs to pull off a successful presentation at the Paris Transportation Conference to land more clients and save his company. But strange events in the tunnels under Paris drive him to distraction and into a strange, profound sadness. In search of answers under the city, he gets trapped below ground with a gorgeous woman who he desires like none before. But will the sadness tear him apart before he can convince himself and her that love does not only exist in fairy tales?

Together they may hold the key to the strange disasters striking the City of Lights. Can Sarah unravel the secrets of the city and of her heart in time to save them all?

Collar up against the rain, cap low on his forehead, Josh Kleine strode across the bridge and cooed to his Bernese Mountain dog, Sally, at the other end of the phone line, back in Oakland, California. Then without warning, his best friend and housemate Liam took the phone away from his dog and teased Josh about his habit of talking to his dog, especially long distance.

“Whatever, man. You know I love Sally more than you. I gotta get some shut eye to get up early for the conference tomorrow,” Josh said. “I’ll call you later.”

“Sure. Take care. And go meet some French women, will you? Sounds like you need to get laid.”

“Hey, where did that come from? Speak for yourself.” Josh shook his head.

Liam barked a laugh and clicked off the cell phone.

Josh slipped the phone back into his coat pocket and passed a beautiful woman strolling on the bridge. Under her hat, she had long brown hair flowing over her shoulders, seemingly not minding that her hair was getting wet. She had a faraway look in her eyes. In that moment, passing only a few feet away from her, he could swear that he smelled the hot air of roasting chestnuts. A whoosh of hot air surrounded him. He’d smelled and felt that the day before in the behind-the-scenes tour of the Paris Metro. Strange.

He wasn’t underground in the Metro. He was on the bridge. With her.

He caught himself staring at the woman and glanced away. And sighed. Too bad. She was so his type—tall and gorgeous. He saw them—his arms around her, holding her close to him, those long legs that could wrap around his body… He did a double take.

Their gazes locked. His heart sped up.

She strode by, her boots clicking against the pavement.

The rain gusted.

It had been a long time since he’d been with a woman.

But that was on purpose. He always fell too hard, too fast, and the relationships always crashed and burned.

The last relationship had nearly ruined his business too. No. Relationships were bad news to his heart and his career. He didn’t trust himself to make the right choices as far as relationships went. He’d let Melanie into his life and his apartment and his business. Then only months ago, she’d stolen his biggest client and dumped him, all on the same day.

He turned around toward the Left Bank. Time to get back to his affordable room he was renting in an apartment, located up the street from the conference near the Saint-Germain Boulevard.

He had to get up early to meet with his prospective clients and prepare his presentation for the transportation conference. He needed to get those clients to keep his consulting and training business afloat. He was still recovering from the Melanie disaster.

He had no time for women, French or otherwise.

Review

I haven't read paranormal in so long, so I was hesitant to read this book. However, since the author is my friend, I thought I'd give it a try. A copy of this book was given to me to beta read. I was pleasantly surprised and basically devoured this book.

"Macho is the front, the back, and the whole of me, Doc."

Commander Jesse Hayes was all kinds of macho and sexy. At first, I thought he was going to be one of those tough government agent and slowly soften up to his subject. I was surprised when he started showing a bit of his humor right away to Evelyn. Of course I enjoyed it when he would get all badass and fight the bad guys to protect her.

Evelyn felt like she had to prove herself to everyone so she worked so hard to get a PhD. Ooh, big deal, right? When she landed the job she's always wanted, she thought it was the chance she's been waiting for. Oh, but she didn't know what she was getting into, the poor thing. It's a good thing sexy commander was there to her rescue.

I loved how protective Jesse was, even if it was just Evelyn's reputation he was protecting. The tension between them was also very enjoyable. I love me some sexual tension! It makes a story seem more interesting, methinks.

"...maybe they'd seen him naked. That might convince a nun."

My favorite thing about this book is the comedic timing, especially coming from Haveland - the shape shifter. As with any man who knows what's good, he tried to flirt with Evelyn. Well, you can guess how Jesse responded to that.

"Commander, with all due respect, sir, canids have exceptional hearing. Don't make me open up a can of woof ass."

Lastly, I love a strong woman. Evelyn found something so astounding, I wish their story would continue. You'll have to read the book to find out what I mean :)
